Lido House Newport Beach

"Hotel architecture is the art of creating spaces that whisper to the soul of the traveler, offering a blend of comfort, luxury, and a sense of place."

Lido House is Newport Beach's favorite guesthouse for locals and visitors. The hotel's design highlights elegant twists on a variety of nautical themes.

The building once housed Newport Beach's City Hall, and its central location (near the marina, beach, restaurants, and boutiques) makes it an ideal jumping off point for exploring the area. Like other parts of Newport Beach, the exterior has a nautical, all-American feel.

Given its prime location near the marina and beach, the hotel's a magnet for families. Lido House has 130 guest rooms, one presidential suite, various executive suites, and five three-story cottages that are a great option for families and larger groups.

As part of the design team for Lido House, Nicholas Nicola was part of the collective effort to design the hotel's exterior and the rooftop bar. Nicholas Nicola has brought his specialized expertise and focused on integrating the hotel's facade with its coastal surroundings. The work on the rooftop bar emphasized practical design choices that leveraged the scenic views, fostering a relaxed yet refined ambiance. This collaborative approach balanced aesthetic appeal with functionality, ensuring that every design decision enhanced the guests experience. The team's success in marrying the hotel's architectural identity with its environment highlights the importance of collective creativity and precision in creating spaces that resonate with both locale and luxury.

Personal Note

“Designing the exterior of a hotel is like composing a silent symphony that speaks to the heart of every passerby and guest. It’s about crafting a facade that not only harmonizes with its surroundings but also tells a story of luxury and the promise of unforgettable experiences.”

The architectural strategy was to meld modern amenities with elements that reflect the local heritage and seascape, creating a seamless transition between indoor luxury and outdoor serenity. Attention to detail in the choice of materials, textures, and colors was paramount, ensuring that every aspect of the hotel resonates with the tranquility and beauty of its seaside setting. The Lido House design project showcases how thoughtful architecture and interior design can transform a space into a haven that speaks to the soul of its locale.
